You have to wonder about degrees of nudity. In the everyday language of American-English, we say someone without a shirt is half naked. We say someone without socks or shoes is barefoot. If we suspect you are not wearing undergarments beneath your outerwear, we may say, “Are you naked under there?”
That is all fine and good, but there is more to it. Say you have no clothes on, but you have gloves or jewelry on. Is it still nudity, or just partial nudity?
If you are naked but with pasties covering you naughty bits, is it still nudity, or is it, again, partial nudity?
How about this-you’re in the buff, but you’ve got socks on! It tends to be considered nude as well, yet you still have an article of clothing on!
Let us not forget the accessories of hats, glasses, headbands, earmuffs-whatever you wear to make yourself not feel naked.
Personally, I feel completely naked when I do not wear my watch. Even if I am in full dress otherwise, if my watch is not on, my arm feels so naked. Other people “feel naked” when they do not wear jewelry or glasses.
So here is my question for you-what defines nudity?
